Job Description

The Walker Art Center empowers people to experience the transformative possibilities of the art and ideas of our time and to imagine the world in new ways. Walker Art Center's Public Engagement team presents a range of innovative programming, projects, and events designed to engage a diverse public with the Walker’s exhibitions, artist projects, performances, film programs, learning opportunities, and civic engagement platforms. The Community Engagement Coordinator, in support of the Associate Director of Public Engagement, helps strategize, plan, and implement community engagement initiatives and public programs that connect constituents and community while cultivating a sense of belonging and radical hospitality. This position will help build strategic strong community partnerships across the city & region.

WHAT YOU GET TO DO  

Community & Public Engagement

  • Foster partnerships with Twin Cities organizations for collaborative multigenerational programming through regular communication, active listening, and respectful negotiation
  • Share information across the organization and collaborate with colleagues in a manner that
  • supports initiatives and practices that welcome communities and visitors with specific needs 
  • Assist with community outreach and coordinate community group participation and advisory groups for a range of programs and initiatives 
  • Stay informed about other relevant programs locally, nationally and internationally 
  • Participate in the collection of data, stories, and info tracking to celebrate, refine strategies and inform/align with strategic plan 

Program Management & Support

  • Support department efforts to create high-quality community engagement experiences 
  • Assist with managing program invoices, expense reports, processing payments and tracking budgets 
  • Assist programmers with the execution of grant applications by managing timelines, 
  • coordinating support materials, creating and formatting program information according to grant guidelines
  • Work with Marketing, Communications, and Content Departments to provide information for advertisements, press coverage, web content, and other promotional materials in a timely manner 
  • Liaison with Visitor Experience team to plan and provide necessary information
  • Maintain timely and accurate program statistics. Participate in debriefing and prepare reports as needed. 
  • Collect and administer surveys to track visitor engagement and satisfaction 
  • Supervise volunteers and contracted artists as needed

Events & Meeting Support

  • Prepare contracts and supporting documentation for speakers, presenters, writers, artists, and
  • other contractors
  • Make travel arrangements and prepare itineraries for speakers, guests, and staff
  • Assist with the coordination of events and programs, ensuring that the presentation of the event is professional, efficient and welcoming. If needed make catering arrangement. 
  • Produce event-related documents (Internal Event Forms, event maps, contracts, signage) Procure and prepare supplies if needed 
  • Maintain Community Engagement calendar, schedule spaces using Artifax and confirm set-up details
  • Manage A/V needs and set-up

WHAT WE NEED IN YOU 

Minimum Requirements

  • 1 – 2 years experience assisting with programming is required 
  • 1 year minimum professional administrative experience in administration and/or project management is required 
  • Education in arts administration, art or similar, preferred 
  • Ability to work Thursday evenings and occasional weekends is required 
  • Strong communication and diplomatic skills in order to interface with various departments and management levels. We are seeking a collaborator who enjoys working closely with others 
  • Proactive and able to work independently, ability to problem-solve and quickly adapt to a range of situations. 
  • Demonstratable project management skills 
  • Experience in facilitating conversations and community groups preferred 
  • Relationships in Twin Cities academic and creative communities is a major plus 
  • A strong applicant would be a multi-tasker and connector and have experience and interest in contemporary art or education 
  • Maintain a working knowledge of Microsoft Office to successfully produce written correspondence, ensure calendar management, and database maintenance. CRM or venue management software experience a plus, specifically the use of Artifax and Tessitura
  • Detail oriented, able to prioritize workload and self-manage. 
  • Proven ability to welcome, encourage, educate, and engage with visitors of all ages, abilities, attitudes and cultural backgrounds
  • Active interest in contemporary arts and culture, knowledge of local and national art, and current practices in the art learning field is preferred

JOB SPECIFICATIONS This position is considered full-time (35 hours per week), non-exempt}}. As a non-exempt position, it is eligible for overtime pay. The {{minimum}} compensation for this role is $25.09 hourly. The Walker offers a wide range of benefits for both part-time and full-time employees.

This position is covered by the American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees (AFSCME) labor contract.

This position is not eligible for relocation assistance.
