The Logan Library is looking for new employees to help spark creation, exploration, and collaboration in our community.
Under general supervision, the Library Technical Assistant's (LTA) primary responsibility will be staffing the service desks and assisting librarians with programming and collection management.
Scheduled Hours:
The full-time schedule is 40 hours per week including weekday, weekend, and evening shifts.
Closes on Friday, August 23, 2024.
Qualifications:
Must be a High School graduate or equivalent.
Reach, push, pull, stand, sit, walk, squat and move repetitively (with or without a library cart).
Lift/carry materials up to 50 pounds.
Execute written instruction to a consistent high standard.
Learn circulation principles and practices for Logan Library.
Spanish speaking and other languages such as ASL are preferred but not required.

Responsibilities:
Daily duties may include, but are not limited to:
Welcoming patrons to the library; assisting patrons in locating and selecting materials; checking in and out library materials; answering and directing phone calls; providing information services such as assisting patrons with the online catalog; issuing and renewing library cards to new patrons; renewing library cards; receiving money from patrons for fines, copies, ongoing book sale, etc.; helping with shelving as needed.
Offering high quality services by prioritizing patron privacy; treating all patrons with good customer service; working directly with your supervising librarian(s) on assigned projects, tasks, and events; promoting, and helping with, library events and services; inspect incoming and outgoing items for missing pieces and/or damage; assisting patrons with library resources and devices as needed; gathering and shelving patrons' holds; identifying materials in need of repair and mending them according to established practice; assisting with the cataloging and processing of new materials; assisting with the removal of discarded
Knowledge, Skills, and Characteristics:
Knowledge and understanding of library shelving practices (esp. the Dewey Decimal system, alphabetically by title, author, etc).
Knowledge working in a library setting and familiarity with professional library practices and procedures.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other staff and the public.
Skill in understanding and following complex procedures and guidelines.
Practice processing physical library materials, in a variety of formats.
Basic knowledge of Reference Interviews and recommendation best practices.
Competence with data entry and metadata descriptors.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff and the public.
Excellent customer service skills.
