Job Description

We currently have an opportunity available for a Retail Store Manager in our Altoona Surplus City location.


Job Summary:
The Store Manager will oversee the Altoona location’s staff and activities to achieve a profitable store location and maintain Surplus City’s reputation for excellent customer service.


Supervisory Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Trains staff for the retail location.
  • Organizes and oversees the schedules and work of staff.
  • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees as needed and under company policy.


Duties/Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Oversees staff and fulfills staffing needs for regular hours, as well as special events or high-traffic times.
  • Maintains and motivates a positive sales team through communication and evaluations.
  • Confirms daily sales reports and cash receipts; ensures monies are deposited regularly, and reports are submitted as prescribed by company policies and/or management.
  • Addresses customer needs and resolves issues, ensuring positive and long-term customer relationships.
  • Ensures inventory data is correct by performing inventory counts and checks.
  • Collaborates with other store managers and owners to develop, coordinate, and identify cost-effective advertising and hiring strategies.
  • Ensures that the store always looks clean and inviting and is a safe working environment.
  • Places and rotates merchandise to attract positive attention from customers.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Required Skills/Abilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail.
  • Works well under pressure and deadlines; ability to multitask.
  • Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to motivate staff.
  • Excellent customer service abilities.
  • Thorough understanding of company policies and practices.


Education and Experience:

  • At least two (2) years of retail management experience.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Business, Business Administration, or a related field is highly preferred, but less formal education with more on-the-job experience may be substituted.
  • Successful completion of the company’s management training program.


Physical Requirements:  

  • Must be able to stand and walk throughout the retail space for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to lift to 50 pounds at times.


Store hours: Monday – Thursday, 8 am – 6 pm; Friday, 8 am – 8 pm; Saturday, 8 am – 5 pm; Sunday, 10 am – 5 pm. MUST BE ABLE TO WORK ANY DAY AND SHIFT.
