Job Description

This is a full-time position that boasts a salary commensurate with experience. The hours required for this position will be 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Position Summary: 

Spanish will be taught with the two-part goal of exposing students to the language and culture of Spanish-speaking countries around the world, as well as developing a curiosity and enthusiasm for learning another language. The Spanish Teacher may also have some Floating Assistant duties, assisting in classrooms throughout the day as needed.

Responsibilities: 

  • Teach Spanish to children from Kindergarten through 6th grade and engage infants through four-year-olds in Spanish reading and speaking.
  • Create a positive and supportive classroom environment, establishing clear expectations and managing student behavior effectively.
  • Design and implement experiential and hands-on lessons, adapting to individual student learning paces and styles.
  • Utilize Montessori-aligned materials and methods, incorporating creativity and multi-modal learning.
  • Assess and evaluate student progress regularly, providing necessary support and enrichment.
  • Communicate student progress and needs with Classroom Teachers, Student Support Team, and parents.
    • Participate in the Student Support Team and contribute to Individual Educational Plans when necessary.
  • Maintain an attractive, organized, clean classroom/instructional space that is age-appropriate and conducive to learning.
  • Manage the classroom budget for special activities and for the acquisition and maintenance of educational materials and supplies.
  • Utilize software for documenting students’ progress.
  • Write required student progress reports twice a year.
  • Conduct parent conferences and participate in classroom teacher/parent conferences when requested.
  • Arrange for substitute teachers with clear lesson plans when absent.
  • Uphold the school’s mission, philosophy, and policies, and maintain high standards of professional conduct.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum design and implementation, and participate in school functions, meetings, and professional development activities.
  • Perform extracurricular duties as assigned and engage in continuous professional development.

  • Fluent in Spanish, with expertise in Spanish language teaching.
  • Proficient in Montessori pedagogy, experiential learning, and differentiated instruction.
  • Skilled in creating a positive learning environment and effectively managing student behavior.
  • Capable of designing and implementing age-appropriate lessons aligned with the school’s curriculum.
  • Competent in using authentic assessments to evaluate and support student progress.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for engaging with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ability to maintain an organized classroom, manage budgets, and document student progress efficiently.
  • Demonstrates integrity, responsibility, creativity, and respect for diversity in all professional interactions.
  • Effective in working with colleagues, school leadership, and participating in team efforts for curriculum and school events.
  • Flexible in adapting teaching methods to meet individual student needs and responding to school requirements.
  • Committed to continuous learning and improvement through professional development opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess a Bachelor’s or higher degree in education or a related field.
  • Must possess specialized knowledge of the Spanish language.
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience with children and/or adolescents, or experience in a classroom environment, or teaching role in an educational environment.
  • Must possess the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public.
  • Must be proficient with a variety of technology platforms and tools and the ability to integrate them with the curriculum.
  • Must pass all required clearances ( PA Child Abuse , Pennsylvania Access to Criminal History , Federal Criminal History Background Check ).

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must have an audible voice and adequate hearing and vision in order to supervise the students, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Must have sufficient mobility and the agility needed to interact with children.
  • Must have the physical agility to lift up to 50 pounds and to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead.
