$23.35 per hour

DESCRIPTION

Responsible for overseeing and managing all laboratory activities within the wastewater treatment facility. This includes ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, conducting analyses of wastewater samples, managing laboratory staff, and maintaining accurate records.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Fundamental and practical knowledge in environmental science, chemistry, biology, or a related field required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in a laboratory setting, with at least two years in a supervisory or managerial role is required.
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License at time of placement.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of water quality testing methods, analytical instrumentation, and laboratory safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and permitting requirements related to wastewater treatment and water quality.
  • Skill in interpreting and applying environmental regulations to ensure compliance with wastewater treatment and water quality standards.
  • Skill in effective verbal and written communication to manage staff, collaborate with stakeholders, and present technical information.
  • Skill in using laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and other computer applications for data analysis and reporting.
  • Ability to lead and manage staff, providing guidance, training, and oversight to ensure operational efficiency and compliance.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, to support water quality initiatives.
  • Ability to analyze data, interpret laboratory results, and make informed decisions to maintain water quality and regulatory compliance.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the laboratory, including sample collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Ensure that laboratory equipment is properly calibrated, maintained, and operated according to standard protocols.
  • Conduct chemical, biological, and physical analyses of water samples to assess compliance with regulatory standards and permit requirements.
  • Develop and implement quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) procedures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results.
  • Maintain records of laboratory analyses, data, and documentation in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure that laboratory operations comply with applicable environmental regulations, including those set by the EPA, state environmental agencies, and local authorities.
  • Prepare and submit reports, permits, and other documentation required for regulatory compliance.
  • Supervise laboratory staff, including laboratory technicians and analysts, and provide guidance on technical procedures, safety protocols, and professional development.
  • Conduct training sessions for laboratory personnel to enhance their skills and knowledge in water quality analysis and laboratory techniques.
  • Stay informed about advancements in laboratory techniques, analytical methods, and wastewater treatment technologies.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to conduct research and development projects aimed at improving water quality monitoring and treatment processes.
  • Develop and manage the laboratory budget, including forecasting expenses, purchasing supplies, and maintaining equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
